Rolex Daytona Platinum Ice Blue 116506

The Rolex Cosmograph Daytona ref. 116506 was introduced in 2013 to mark the 50th anniversary of the Daytona, and it was the first Daytona ever produced in 950 platinum. It also debuted the ice blue dial, a colour Rolex reserves exclusively for its platinum watches, paired with a chestnut brown monobloc Cerachrom bezel, making it the first Daytona fitted with a ceramic bezel. The 40mm Oyster case features a Triplock screw down crown and screw down pushers and is water resistant to 100 metres, while the moulded tachymetric scale on the bezel allows average speeds to be measured with clear legibility. Hands and hour markers use Rolex’s Chromalight display for long lasting luminescence.

Inside is the manufacture calibre 4130, the self winding mechanical chronograph that defined the modern Daytona, with a power reserve of approximately 72 hours. It is fitted with a paramagnetic blue Parachrom hairspring and carries Rolex’s Superlative Chronometer certification. The chronograph offers a 30 minute counter at 3 o’clock and a 12 hour counter at 9 o’clock, with small seconds at 6, all housed beneath a solid platinum case back. The watch is completed by a platinum Oyster bracelet with a folding Oysterlock safety clasp and Easylink comfort extension. Produced until 2023, when it was succeeded by the 126506, the 116506 remains one of the most recognisable and sought after references in the modern Daytona lineup.
