The F.P. Journe Tourbillon Souverain Black Label Ref. TV, Calibre 1519 is one of the most exclusive and conceptually significant creations in modern haute horlogerie. Released in 2019 to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Tourbillon Souverain, this watch is reserved strictly for existing F.P. Journe owners and produced in extremely limited numbers under the Black Label designation—an elite, boutique-only line crafted exclusively in platinum with black dials. François-Paul Journe’s lifelong fascination with the tourbillon is deeply embedded in this piece, tracing back to the pocket-watch tourbillon he built by hand at age 20, through his first wristwatch tourbillon in 1991, and culminating in the original Tourbillon Souverain of 1999 with remontoir d’égalité. This anniversary edition introduces the Vertical Tourbillon, a groundbreaking construction designed to maintain constant performance whether the watch is flat or upright, reinforcing Journe’s pursuit of chronometric integrity above all else.

Aesthetically, the watch is both dramatic and meticulously refined. The 42 mm platinum case, standing 13.6 mm thick, is finished with polished and bevelled screwheads and rounded pegs, underscoring the brand’s obsessive attention to detail. The dial is formed directly from blackened 18K rose gold movement bridges, decorated with Clou de Paris guilloché, engraved and hand-painted inscriptions in white, and subtle accents of red and rose gold.  The vertical tourbillon at 9 o’clock completes one revolution every 30 seconds and is dramatically highlighted by a mirror-polished, cone-shaped reflector ring that concentrates light onto the cage, with a second reflector visible from the movement side. Powered by the manually wound Calibre 1519 in 18K rose gold, offering an 80-hour power reserve, the watch is paired with a black alligator strap and platinum pin buckle. Rare even by F.P. Journe standards, the Black Label Vertical Tourbillon stands as a definitive statement of technical mastery, aesthetic restraint, and horological philosophy.
