F.P. Journe Chronomètre à Résonance 01R

The F.P. Journe Chronomètre à Résonance ("Brass Collection") is one of the most historically significant pieces in independent watchmaking, and the one that made François-Paul Journe's name. It's built around his signature resonance complication: two separate balance wheels placed extremely close together within a single 38mm case, so their vibrations synchronize and each balance's inaccuracies cancel out the other's, pulling the whole movement toward greater precision. Journe coined the term "resonance" himself, comparing the effect to a resonating stringed instrument, and the concept had been attempted by watchmakers for centuries before he became one of the few to master it in a wristwatch. The two independently adjustable time displays (each with its own guilloché sub-dial) let the watch also function as a dual-timezone piece, with a power reserve indicator and separate crowns for winding/setting and for synchronizing the seconds via a flyback function.

The "Brass" designation refers to the movement material used in Journe's earliest production, made only between roughly 2001 and 2004, before he switched to 18-carat gold movements in 2004. These brass-movement examples, produced in very limited numbers, are now the most sought-after by collectors specifically because they represent Journe's first commercial output and mark the origin point of the brand's cult status in haute horlogerie.
